All social media activity should be honoring to Christ and above reproach
- Student interaction should be limited to Sports or Spiritual related topics only
- All online communication with students is done in full view of other people (group pages, group texts, wall-to-wall, group chat)
- In the event where private conversations cannot be avoided please take the following precautions:
- Any online message or text must be saved when talking to students
- Parents should be made aware of any private conversations
- At least one other CTI/EAE staff should be made aware of the conversations
- Only add students to your personal accounts if there is a legitimate need but this is only done if there is parental and CTI staff knowledge
- Avoid using:
- emojis that involve hearts or refer to physical affection when communicating with students, especially of the opposite gender.
- Use of inappropriate pet names
- Inappropriate comments about a young person’s appearance, including excessive flattering comments
- Inappropriate conversation or enquiries of a sexual nature (eg questions about a young person’s sexuality or his/her sexual relationship with others)
- Disrespectful or discriminatory treatment of, or manner towards, young people based on their perceived or actual sexual orientation or religious beliefs
- Vilification or humiliation
- Jokes or innuendo of a sexual nature
- Obscene gestures and language
- If a student needs someone to talk to as a confidante/mentor that is appropriate as long as it is with the same gender. If not:
- Ask who they feel comfortable talking to and encourage them to do so
- Ask their permission to allow someone from the CTI team of the same gender to talk with them.
- Exception: If the parents are aware you are communicating with the student of the opposite gender and have given you permission to do so that is allowed. As long as you communicate with the parents what is being said when talking with their child.
- Organization members are expected to demonstrate and model purity, integrity, transparency and accountability with all communications including those noted above.
- When a private conversation with a student moves beyond communication of information, the CTI member will inform another member of the conversation.
