EAE IS CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF FANDOM AND WORK THROUGHOUT ASIA. LET US NOT FORGET THOSE PLAYERS WHO PAVED THE WAY!

Picture
Picture6-2 GUARD
OLIVER XU is selected as our point guard because of his ability to handle the ball and attack relentlessly. His explosive first step allows him to get into the lane and his vision allows him to find players all over the court. If no one is open, he is a very capable scorer. This ability helped him get onto a NCAA Division 1 roster and onto this team!

"His court vision is better than any high school player I've seen.  As our assist leader throughout the season, he delivers the ball in dazzling angles and can squeeze it thought the tightest of windows to cutting teammates.  Oliver also led our team in scoring, including a 42-point performance against our rival Singapore American School.  In his 3 year varsity career, he has hit three game-winning shots in tournament games. Oliver runs the break well and can finish at the rim with either hand.  He is adept at drawing contact and getting to the free throw line.  Finally, Oliver is an effective floor leader and distributer.  We run the offense through him, but he is not a black hole.

I've never coached a more passionate and driven player than Oliver.  While he did not have the same physical size and strength of his older brother who plays for NYU, Oliver is much more coachable and valuable to our team."

                                                       -HKIS Head Coach Jeremy Evans

Picture6-2 GUARD
KOKI WILEY led an impressive high school career as a guard who could literally do it all. His basketball IQ is complimented well by his calm exterior. Don't let that calmness decieve you, he is beyond competitive and can control a game better than anyone. And just when you think you're safe as a defender, he'll drop 30 points on you.

"Koki is a dynamic player and an incredible individual! He is very versatile and is exactly what a coach wants in a leader. He's very smart on and off the court, alway represents the program in the right way, and will never be out worked. Koki was voted team MVP as a freshman by his teammates and is much deserved. After watching a ton of film on Koki, I can tell you that I am more than excited to have the opportunity to Coach a great player, a great person, and a true competitor!"

-Rhodes College Head Coach Steven Goodson

Picture6-6 FORWARD
MATT ASHLEY is a great combination of size, strength, and skill. He is one of the most formadable small forwards to come out of Asia. He was athletic and scary to those who tried to stop him on his way to Far East Supremacy. He was able to take his game to the next level when he needed to while staying focused on his team.

"Matt was an outstanding player who was beloved by his teammates, peers, and coaches. Great attitude, work ethic and enthusiasm. He grew from an awkward undersized freshman on the varsity, sharing time on JV, to a 6’6 powerful leader who could play team ball, defense and shoot 3’s."
                                                         -Kubasaki Head Coach Jon Fick

Picture6-8 FORWARD
QUINTIN METCALF is already a legend and the youngest on this list. He is a perfect power forward for this team. He is long, athletic, skilled, and so much more than just a dunker. Do not leave him open from range or you will pay for it!  He has won multiple Far East titles and MVPs. He is preparing to take the NCAA world by storm!

“We are excited to welcome Quintin to St. Bonaventure. Quintin is a long, athletic four man with the ability to step out and shoot it. His athletic ability and work ethic will allow Quintin to continue to his improvement and help our team compete in the Atlantic 10.”
-St. Bonaventure Head Coach Mark Schmidt

"
Q Metclaf has always had a high celing. Was happy I was able to coach him his junior and senior year in which I believed transformed him into the greatest Dodd’s player ever. Not only will he play for a D1 program but he will play significant minutes and contribute to reviving the st. Bona program."
                                  -Humphreys Head Coach Ron Merriweather

Picture6-8 CENTER
AVI SCHAFER has had an interesting career moving from place to place. However, you can see that every place he moved represented another level higher. He is a dream center for this team. He is big, strong, athletic, and always looking to get better! He is difficult to guard in the post and it is easy to see why he is on this team.

"The growth of Avi from the time he switched sports from soccer to basketball in the 11th grade has been phenomenal. From high school at St Mary’s in Japan to national prep champion at Brewster Academy to walk-on at Georgia Tech to professional back in Japan to All-Star to national team player. It’s a testament to it’s not where you start but where you can finish with dedication, determination and hard work."
-St. Marys and Tokyo Samurai Coach Kris Thiesen

Picture6-3 GUARD
ANFERNEE DENT is a perfect player to support this team. He is freakishly athletic and also has a strong body that can allow him to play positions 1-4 effectively. He will play defense, rebound, and score. He knows how to win and he will do it with a smile! He is also a former Far East Champion and MVP!

"Anfernee was one of the key cogs in a Daegu team that won its first KAIAC conference regular-season and tournament title in a quarter-century and the Warriors’ first Far East Division II title since 1990. But it wasn’t so much what he did individually, as it was his transformation into a total team player, who realized during the season that people prefer a winner over an individual star."
-Stars and Stripes Sports Reporter Dave Ornauer

Picture
Picture6-1 GUARD
JENNING LEUNG could easily be either guard on this team but PG will work just fine. His ability to score inside and out makes him dangerous. He is more than an effective passer and is quick as can be. He had a great college career. Dropped 21 points against Alabama and future NBA star Collin Sexton. He is an APAC legend and an easy pick for this list.

" I can’t think of anyone more deserving of being selected to the all decade team. Jenning came to McGill as a walk on and left as a four year starter, four time conference champion and multiple all star selections. Truly a great story."
-McGill University Head Coach David DeAveiro

Picture6-1 GUARD
JOSH MOORE is the definition of a basketball player. I love seeing him here as our SG due to his amazing ability to knock down shots. However, his crossover is deadly and first step is devastating to all defenders. And be careful if you are a big man who is late to help, because he might put you on a personal poster with his incredible leaping ability!

"Here's a guy who really only begins to play organized ball in 9th grade (and in Thailand for that matter), and ends up playing at a D2 school in the States.  And it's because he just flat out put the work in.  He was shooting and playing all the time...on his own and with whoever would play with him.  He worked as hard at his game as anyone I have known.  Josh is very athletic...and can score from 3, pull-up jump shot, and at the rim.  He was very strong, and I don't know if I ever saw anyone get the better of him physically.  In the end, though, Josh was a gamer, and would just exert his will on the floor.  He wasn't afraid of anyone or any situation, and when the game was on the line, he was the guy I wanted to have the ball.  I loved coaching him.  Of course his passion sometimes spilled over into confrontation with others (even me), but he was always all in, and I could trust him to show up and lead the team every single game."
                                                   -Grace Head Coach Mike Sprenger

Picture6-2 GUARD
JORDAN HEADING is naturally a guard more than a small forward, but certainly has the ability, strength, and atheticism to hold down this position on this team. He is a Far East legend and has found success in college and beyond. If he isn't dropping a jumper on you, he might be driving to the rim and dunking on you. WATCH OUT!

"The opportunity to coach Jordan Heading was an honor of the highest order. History will always show that Jordan is one of the great players to ever dawn the CBU uniform. As good as Jordan was on the court, he was even better off of it. From his teammates to our greater community, Jordan was always passionate about serving others.

Jordan you are the shining of example of development and leadership in our program. Congratulations on your well deserved appointment to the EAE All-Decade Team. Everyone in Lancer Nation is so very proud of you."
-Cal Baptist University Head Coach Rick Croy

Picture6-5 FORWARD
MICHAEL SAKAZAKI is a natural power forward. He is athletic, strong, and a work horse on defense. There is nothing he is not willing to do to help his team win. He fits well on this team because of his committment to fundamentals and great footwork. He is legend in Guam and continues to excel beyond high school.

“Mike is one of my all time favorite players to coach. He showed up every day and gave it his all, never complained about anything and always grateful for everything given to him.“
-Chaminade University head Coach Eric Bovaird

"Defines hard work - wasn’t the most athletic however he put in the extra work to become the player he wanted to be. Great teammate you can ask for - he just wanted to win. Finished up 4 years at chaminade university - talk about being unselfish - he played his role to his fullest. Couldn’t be more proud of him!"
                                                     -FDMS Basketball Coach Jimmie Yi

Picture6-6 CENTER
LAWRENCE LEE is a classical post player. He is tough, physical, fundamental and unafraid to mix it up. He may not be as athletic as others in his position, nor as tall, but he makes up for it all with hard work and intelligence. He helped put his Cal Tech team on the map after a very successful high school career.

"Lawrence was Mr. Fundamental, highly skilled, and full of enthusiasm. He was enjoyable to coach and we knew, while he was with us, he would work hard and be a great teammate."
-Cal Tech Head Coach Dr. Oliver Eslinger

" Lawrence is incredibly dedicated to the game of basketball. He has also played on the Hong Kong Junior National Team as well as various Nike League squads. Lawrence has the most complete game of any player I’ve had in my eleven years of coaching. Beyond the statistics, Lawrence is a remarkable player and young man overall.  He is coachable, teachable, and emotionally invested in the team plan.  He excels in his academics, writes persuasively, and interacts with adults and peers with ease and maturity.  He is also a spiritual young man who thinks deeply about life.  He draws strength from his faith and from his family, who have constantly challenged and supported him.  His mother, father, and brother have helped Lawrence set priorities, marshal his energies wisely, and pursue his passions."
                                                       -HKIS Head Coach Jeremy Evans

Picture6-1 GUARD
TJ HARDEMAN will play a perfect role on this team. His ability to score from distance and get in the lane and finish makes him a perfect sparkplug for this team. He is the type of player who can come in and do damage immediately. In high school he was Champion and MVP of both Far East and ACSC tournaments just one week apart.

"If you wanted inspiration, if you wanted DESIRE and fire ... that's TJ summed up in a nutshell. He gave 100%, not only in games but in practice too. His competitive nature fueled others to be better. A Joy to coach."
-Faith Academy Head Basketball Coach Robert Nichols

"TJ is a classic gym rat, who loves to compete and work hard to be the best he can be.  His hard work and dedication to improvement and understanding the game showed up consistently in his performance on the court.  He could hit big shots outside, and when teams shut that down, he would slash to the inside to create for his teammates or score himself.  His desire to play the game for Jesus gave him a passion that few could match.  His grandpa Tine always said, when you play for Jesus, you never lose.  Tj and his teammates rarely lost anyway."
-Faith Academy Athletic Director and former Assistant Coach                                                                                            Joshua Manthe

THE HISTORY: This list was created by several coaches, scouts and fans all throughout Asia to celebrate the next level acheivement that was accomplished by these student athletes and to also celebrate EAE's committment to cheering for athletes past and present for well over a decade. EAE is very thankful to all the coaches, fans, and reporters who sent us quotes and shared in our enthusiasm for this decade in the making project. We also want to thank the players for their hard work and committment to their gifts and passions. Almost 200 names were considered for this list!

In 2007, Luke Elie was coaching varsity basketball in Seoul when he decided to start a club basketball team for foreign school boys in Korea who desired to play ball at the next level. Luke was a former international school student athlete who went on to play college and professional basketball. Coach Luke used his many years of experience and networking to help train athletes and advise them through the college recruiting process.

His club eventually expanded beyond the borders of Korea and would eventually include female teams along with adding volleyball for boys and girls. The program was renamed East Asia Elite where the name has become synonymous with high school athletics in over 17 Asian nations. Luke, along with many other EAE coaches have had a chance to witness many of Asia's greatest prep basketball moments and meet most of thier stars.

Coach Luke never imagined that his desire to help student athletes would carry on past the decade, but now we are here. We hope and pray that we will still be able to do this in 2030!
