2020 BOYS BASKETBALL SEASON top 10 player review
(updates coming shortly)

Picture
Picture
FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW, WE HAD A UNANIMOUS NUMBER ONE CHOICE. MATT IS A GOOD COMBINATION OF SIZE, ATHLETICISM AND SKILLED FOOTWORK. HE IS A WORTHWHILE INVESTMENT FOR ANY COACH WHO TAKES HIM AT ANY LEVEL.
Picture
COLLIN IS MORE THEN JUST TALL. ALTHOUGH BEING 6-10 IS A VERY USEFUL SKILL FOR COLLEGE BASKETBALL. HE STILL HAS ANOTHER SEASON TO FILL OUT IN HIS BODY AND IMPROVE HIS SKILL. HE IS ALREADY ATHLETIC AND HAS A GOOD SENSE FOR THE GAME.
Picture
JACKSON IS LONG, ATHLETIC, SKILLED, AND PRETTY SMART WITH THE BALL. THESE ARE ALL GREAT ASSETS THAT COLLEGE COACHES WILL LIKE TO SEE ON THE COURT FOR THEM. HE IS HUNGRY TO PROVE THAT HE HAS WHAT IT TAKES TO BE SUCCESSFUL AT THE NEXT LEVEL.
Picture
BLAKE QUIETLY MOVED UP THIS LIST ALL SEASON. HIS PHYSICAL STRENGTH AND ATHLETICISM WILL ALLOW HIM TRANSITION DIRECTLY INTO THE COLLEGE GAME. ALTHOUGH HE WAS STUCK IN THE POST THIS SEASON A LOT, HE SHOWS A NICE SHOOTING STROKE AS WELL.
Picture
JOSH IS EASILY ONE OF THE MOST FUN PLAYERS ON THIS LIST. HE IS LONG, ATHLETIC, AND CAN SHOOT ANYWHERE. HE HAS ANOTHER YEAR TO FILL INTO HIS BODY AND LET THE GAME COME TO HIM MORE. BUT COLLEGE COACHES WILL BE WANTING THIS ON THEIR TEAM SOONER THEN LATER.
Picture
AIDAN IS EASILY ONE OF THE MOST SKILLED PLAYERS ON THIS LIST. THERE IS NOT A LOT HE CAN NOT DO AND HIS IQ WILL TRANSLATE WELL TO THE COLLEGE GAME. HE IS DECEPTIVELY MORE ATHLETIC AND FAST THEN HE APPEARS AND CAN BE AN ASSET AT BOTH GUARD POSITIONS AT THE NEXT LEVEL.
Picture
MYLES IS A SPECIAL TALENT. HE HAS THE BODY AND ATHLETICISM THAT COLLEGE COACHES DESIRE IN THEIR GUARDS. ALTHOUGH A LOT OF HIS ABILITY IS COLLEGE READY, HE HAS A YEAR TO SEE HOW HIGH HE CAN GO.
Picture
KOJI IS THE YOUNGEST AND SMALLEST ON THIS LIST. BUT NONE OF THAT MATTER ONCE HE IS ON THE COURT. HIS ABILITY TO SHOOT, HANDLE AND DRIVE MAKE HIM A REALLY GOOD COLLEGE RECRUIT! HE'S ONLY IN 10TH GRADE!
Picture
CASEY IS AN AMAZING BLEND OF HEART, HUSTLE AND SKILL. WHEN HIS SHOT IS NOT FALLING, HE IS NOT AFRAID TO USE HIS STRONG BODY AND TAKE IT TO THE HOLE ON BIGGER GUYS. HE IS COLLEGE READY!
Picture
CHANDLER IS THE DEFINITION OF AN ATHLETE WITH A MOTOR. IT IS HARD TO PROJECT WHICH GUARD POSITION HE WOULD BE RECRUITED IN COLLEGE FOR, BUT HIS ENERGY AND SKILL SET IS VALUABLE TO ANY PROGRAM.

2019 ACSC TOP TEN BOYS LIST

THE 2019 ACSC BOYS VOLLEYBALL CHAMPS HAVE BEEN CROWNED AND NOW IT IS TIME TO REVEAL EAE'S TOP TEN PLAYERS TO WATCH. THIS LIST IS CHOSEN ON THE BASIS OF COLLEGE POTENTIAL AND NOT BASED ENTIRELY ON TOURNAMENT PERFORMANCE. JACOB KIM IS OUR VOLLEYBALL SCOUT AND HERE IS HIS PICKS ALONG WITH WHAT HE HAS TO SAY FOR THESE PLAYERS. PLAYERS ON THIS LIST ARE INVITED TO BE ON THE EAE COLLEGE WATCHLIST.

1. Junha (Faith): A hard-working athletic setter, who is willing to hustle to keep the ball alive. He is an accurate setter and can adjust midair to make the appropriate set for the hitter. He knows how to play defense but also knows how to attack the ball. Strong hitter and an accurate jump server. What I would like to see him improve on is hitting line and angle with a little more power. The same goes for his jump serve, giving it more power with accuracy can make him more deadly.

2. Ryan (YISS): An athletic setter who hustles for every ball, whether its setting or just playing defense. A hard-working setter who can jump to play defense and knows how to pass the ball. He makes smart decisions on who to set to and when to dump the ball. Skills to work on are hitting and smoother movements.

3. Wujin (Grace): An all-around player, who can block, pass, and hit with authority. A long and athletic player who can jump. A few things he can work on is placement and having a more accurate serve.

4. Jacob (YISS): Middle hitter who is well known for his blocking, can pass the ball and positions himself well for defense. Great timing with block, strong hitter but can work on being more confident when hitting the ball.

5. Sky (ICSBK): A power hitter, and can serve accurately. He is athletic and gives 110% on all plays. Things to work on are his passing, and decision making when hitting. Sometimes he is too excited to hit, so his decision making isn’t always the best.

CONGRATS TO ICS BANGKOK FOR WINNING THE CHAMPIONSHIP
6. Zechariah (ICSBK): An athletic player who can hit the ball with force. Hard-working player, looking for improvement in all aspects of his game. Great energy guy for the team. A player that uses his emotion to play better, but sometimes his emotions get a hold of him.

7: John (YISS): An athletic player who can play the outside and middle position. He knows how to pass the ball well. He needs to work on being more consistent with his hitting.

8. Ben (ICSBK): An all-around player that can hit, serve, block and pass. One of the anchors on the team. I would like to see him work on hitting harder and learn to aim when serving/hitting.

9. Jihyo (ICSBK): A great server, hitter, and passing. An average player for blocking, but plays an important role for the team. I would like to see him work on his timing for blocking, should work on more placement for hitting as well.

10. Zhi (Dalat): A freakish athlete, high vertical and can hit the ball with authority. Passing is above average but can be improved and serving can be improved.

"HE'S JUST BIGGER THAN EVERYONE ELSE." OR "THE COMPETITION IS TOO WEAK." OR "HE IS JUST MORE ATHLETIC." BLAH BLAH BLAH... QUINTIN MAY BE A MOUNTAIN OF A MAN HERE IN ASIA. BUT HE IS A LOT MORE THAN JUST A BIG MAN. WHEN PEOPLE FOCUS FOR A MOMENT BEYOND THE BIG HAIR AND THE HIGH FLYING DUNKS THEY WILL SEE A HIGH LEVEL PLAYER THAT CAN RUN, MOVE, HANDLE THE BALL, PULL UP FOR JUMP SHOTS, DISTRIBUTE THE BALL AND SO MUCH MORE. SURE, HE MAY HAVE SOME NATURAL ADVANTAGES OUT HERE IN ASIA BUT HE HAS WORKED HARD TO BECOME A COMPLETE PLAYER THAT IS READY FOR THE NEXT LEVEL!
A METCALF HAS NOW BEEN AN EAE NUMBER ONE PLAYER 3 YEARS IN A ROW. WILL THERE BE ANOTHER ONE NEXT YEAR? EAE IS EXCITED TO SEE WHERE QUINTIN'S GIFT AND PASSION FOR THE GAME OF BASKETBALL WILL TAKE HIM. THE SKY IS THE LIMITED FOR THIS TALENTED YOUNG MAN! EAE IS CHEERING AND PRAYING FOR YOUR FUTURE IN BASKETBALL AND IN LIFE! KEEP WORKING HARD AND CHANGE THE WORLD! THANK YOU FOR ALL THE MEMORIES AND THANK YOU TO ALL THOSE PLAYERS ON THIS LIST FOR YOUR HARD WORK! DON'T STOP WORKING... SEASON NEVER ENDS!
Picture
IT HAS BEEN RATHER FUN WATCHING JAHMAR'S BASKETBALL EVOLUTION OVER THE YEARS. HIS ABILITY TO SCORE, PASS AND BREAK ANKLES WITH PROBABLY THE BEST HANDLES IN ASIA HAS BEEN A JOY TO WATCH. HE DOMINATES GAMES IN A VERY CALM AND COOL MANNER. HE HAS NEVER LET HIS SIZE BE A CONCERN. AND HIS OPPONENTS ARE TOO BUSY TRYING TO FIGURE OUT A WAY TO STOP HIM. HE HAS A HIGH IQ FOR THE GAME AND I HOPE COLLEGES WILL GIVE THIS YOUNG NATIONAL TEAM PLAYER A CHANCE!
Picture
DYSON IS THE VERY DEFINITION OF A PURE BASKETBALL PLAYER. HE CAN SIMPLY DO IT ALL!HE HAS A VERY NATURAL FEEL FOR SCORING (MAKING IT LOOK SO EASY). HE CAN HIT YOU FROM OUTSIDE AND ALSO EXPLODE TO THE BASKET! HE DOES SO MANY SIMPLE THINGS WELL, WHICH IS A LOST ART IN TODAY'S GAME. HE LOOKS LIKE A MAN AMONG BOYS WHEN ON THE COURT (DESPITE BEING ONLY 6-1) AND HIS ALL AROUND SKILL LEVEL WILL CERTAINLY CONTRIBUTE TO A COLLEGE PROGRAM MOVING FORWARD!
Picture
JOSIAH IS A SPECIAL ATHLETE. ONE OF THE TRUE COMPLETE PLAYERS WE HAVE HERE IN ASIA. HE LEADS A VERY DISCIPLINED TEAM AND DOES WHATEVER IS NEEDED TO COMPETE. HE SHOOTS, DRIVES, REBOUNDS AND PASSES THE BALL AT A HIGH LEVEL. HE IS QUITE ATHLETIC AND READY FOR THE NEXT LEVEL.
Picture
DAVION IS A PURE POINT GUARD. ONE OF THE BEST FLOOR LEADERS WE HAVE SEEN IN ASIA IN YEARS. HE CONTROLS THE GAME LIKE A PRO AND JUST WHEN YOU THINK HE IS JUST A BALL HANDLER AND PASSER; HE'LL DROP A THREE OR DRIVE TO THE BASKET. A COLLEGE PROGRAM WILL BENEFIT GREATLY FROM HIS ABILITIES!
Picture
KAINE IS A HIGH LEVEL SHOOTER WITH WHAT SEEMS TO BE UNLIMITED RANGE AND CONFIDENCE. DO NOT LET HIS CALM LOOK FOOL YOU, HE IS AN AGRESSIVE ATHLETE WHO CAN FINISH AT AND ABOVE THE RIM! HE HAS AN INCREDIBLE UPSIDE AND WE ARE EXCITED TO SEE HOW HE WILL DOMINATE ASIA NEXT YEAR AS A SENIOR!
Picture
REO IS LONG AND ATHLETIC AND CAN STOKE THE THREE WITH EASE AND SMILE AT YOU AFTER PUTTING YOU ON A POSTER. FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT!
Picture
JALEN HAS ONE OF THE QUICKEST FIRST STEPS IN ASIA. HIS ABILITY TO BEAT HIS OPPENENT AND FINISH AT/ABOVE THE RIM WILL HELP HIM AS HE PURSUES THE NEXT LEVEL!
Picture
DJ IS THE YOUNGEST PLAYER ON THIS LIST AND HAS AN AMAZING FUTURE AS HE IS PROVING HE CAN DO IT ALL. ONE OF ASIA'S BEST SEEN SCORERS IN YEARS!
Picture
DON'T MISTAKE SMOOTH FOR SOFT. RILEY PROVED HE CAN SHOOT AND DRIVE AND SHOW AMAZING TOUCH FROM ALL OVER. HIS LENGTH MAKES IT LOOK EASY FOR HIM.

EAE is excited to feature a new top ten list. This was by far the hardest list that EAE has ever compiled. I want to thank the many coaches, writers, scouts, students, alumni, etc. who contributed to make this list possible. It is not easy to collect nominations from over a hundred potential schools in over a dozen countries. I want to congratulate the athletes who made it to this list. To be recognized as one of the best players on a continent is quite the achievement. I hope and pray that this list encourages athletes to not only be better players but inspires them to grow as individuals in every aspect of life.

EAE strives to cheer on foreign school athletes in Asia and acknowledge the hard work that athletes have put into their passion. This will be the first of two lists. The second ALL ASIA list will be released after the final tournaments are completed in late February. We hope to acknowledge the #1 player in ASIA at the end of these rankings. College coaches will be looking at this list. We hope that this will be a great chance for you to be recognized.

Since most of these players will never have a chance to compete against each other it is very difficult to determine the precise order of these players. However, rankings/voting is based on overall skill (fundamentals), contribution to team success, outstanding stats, outstanding performances, natural gifts, dominance at their position, potential to play in college, etc. according to the scouting reports received on the nominated players.

 10. Samuel Manu (Morrison Academy, Taiwan)
  Sophomore 6ft 4in Point Guard  21ppg 8reb 3ast

"Sam has a great work ethic in season and off. He wants to be the best and he works his tail off to expand his skills to be effective in all five positions. His ability to shoot the ball and handle at his size while finishing strong at the rim makes him a handful to guard."

-REX MANU (Morrison Head Coach)

9. Blake Hlatky (Brent International, Philippines)
  Senior 6ft 1in Point  Guard 22ppg 7reb 8ast

"Blake is an explosive offensive player. Excellent 3-point shooter and very tough to keep out of the paint. Makes plays on defense because he's so athletic. Turns defense into transition offense in the blink of an eye."
                          -JOHN ALEXANDER (GLOBAL SQUAD)

8. KOKI WILEY (American School In Japan)
 Junior 6ft 3in Guard   22ppg 5 threes a game
"
Got a body on him, especially on the perimeter. He shoots 3s like it's nobody's business."
                  -DAVE ORNAUER (Stars and Stripes)

7. Jaaz Cofer (Grace International, Thailand)
 Senior 5ft 10in Point Guard 22ppg 5reb 4ast

"Jaaz spent most if his life in Mongolia, and has been playing basketball competitively for less than 2 years. Excellent all-around player, very quick, good ball handler, great scorer...very creative. Extremely teachable and hard working. The kind of player every coach wants."
-MIKE SPRENGER (Head Coach of Grace)

6. Douglas Nichols (Faith Academy, Philippines)
 Senior 6ft 0in Shooting Guard
*Had a 52 point game against local rival Brent
 "
Doug is a natural SG that can shoot, finish and does it with composure. He's now developing his court vision and passing abilities. He's the hardest working player on our team and his work ethic is unparalleled. Add that to his coachable attitude and the sky is the limit for Doug."
-MIKO ROLDAN (Head Coach of Faith Academy)

5. Quintin Metcalf (Seoul American, Korea)
 Sophomore  6ft 8in Forward/Center

"Quintin had a rather up and down start to this season but has recently figured out how good he can be. He is starting to dominate games with his size, length and athleticism which is starting to make college coaches drool. His upside is incredible and will probably be on the top of this list very soon if he keeps it up."
                                     -LUKE ELIE (EAE Director)

4. Tyrell Alexander (Humphreys High, Korea)
 Junior  6ft 2in  Guard

"Tyrell Alexander is a athletic shooting guard that can score the ball in a variety of ways. He has a deep three point range and savvy handles in addition to a quick first step in addition to being able to finish above the rim."

-RONALD MERRIWETHER  (Head Coach of HHS)

3. Hunter Cort (Yokota American, Japan)
 Senior  6ft 3in  Forward  24ppg 9reb
"Huner is a big who plays like a 2. Great balance to his game. Can spot up from anywhere, can bang inside, play whatever position he's asked and is a team leader."
                               -DAVE ORNAUER (Stars and Stripes)

2. William Huang (Shanghai American-Puxi, China)
 Senior  5ft 11in  Guard
*MVP of APAC (2017 and 2016)

"William is one of the most efficient and skilled players to ever play in APAC. He can play in any style of offense. William is always composed, commands his team like a general, and makes every teammate better. William is lights out from three, has a great mid-range attack, and doesn't have a weakness around the basket."
                                 -JOHN ALEXANDER (Global Squad)

1. Deandre Metcalf (Seoul American, Korea)
 Senior  6ft 6in  Forward   20+ PPG and 10+Reb

"Deandre has shown a great level of progress this season through constant focus and hard work. He is determined to play at the next level in college. His ability to drive the ball into the lane and finish is elite along with a growing mid range game that is complimented by his size and athleticism. His leadership and maturation is growing every game. He will make it to the next level."
                                          -LUKE ELIE (EAE Director)
